Susan Armstrong, LISW

Susan graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2004. She completed her Masters of Social Work degree from St. Ambrose University in 2006. Susan is pursuing a PH.D. in Clinical Social Work. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and can take most insurance.
 
Susan specializes in depression, anxiety, major mental illness, personality disorders, family issues, marital discord, and sexuality using a psychodynamic approach. She is very open to seeing anyone ages 18 and up. She is available in our Muscatine office for appointments Monday through Friday.

Penny Carlton, LISW

Penny is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor that is experienced in working with individuals, couples and groups who are faced with Depression, Anxiety, Stress, PTSD and substance abuse disorders. Penny also specializes in working with the veteran population.
 
She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa School of Social work.
Penny knew from a young age that she wanted to help people and become a therapist. Her approach is to help people face their challenges by being genuine, honest and creating a space for you to feel comfortable to explore your thoughts and feelings. She believes everyone has strengths and the potential to change their lives for the better. She is available in our Muscatine and Bettendorf office for appointments.

Christine Giorgio-Cahalan, LMFT

Christine Giorgio-Cahalan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Christine provides individual, couples and family therapy for children, adolescents and adults. She is experienced in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, low self-esteem and assertiveness, women's issues and difficult life transitions. She works with clients to improve relationships, manage mental health symptoms and overcome difficult life situations.
 
Christine uses a strengths based approach in combination with psychoeducation. She helps clients to discover and improve their existing strengths and skills while utilizing new information to provide insight and personal growth. She recognizes that every person is unique and tailors therapy to meet their individual needs.

Mary is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Marriage & Family Therapy doctoral student. Mary has over 7 years of practice in community mental health, working with school-aged children, adults, couples, and families. Mary has extensive experience in working with families involved with child protective services and is passionate about helping individuals find their voice and regain power in their lives.

Andy Vandercoy, MHC

Andy is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MHC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). He earned his Master of Science degree in Counseling from Western Illinois University in the Quad Cities, and his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa. Andy interned with the Youth Service Bureau of Rock Island County working with school-aged children, adults, couples, and families. Andy works to improve daily living, relationships with others, and specializes in a variety of issues. His experience is working with adolescents and adults dealing with: trauma, depression, anxiety, phobias, anger, adjustment issues, communication difficulties, and behavioral concerns.
 
Andy is accepting, warm, and nonjudgmental using a multi-directional approach with ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Narrative, REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for working with trauma. Andy believes in our natural ability to adapt, survive, and learn from our inner strengths and abilities. The journey is not fought alone, and we can find strength in that as we tell our stories. In our lives we can find more positive and effective ways to live with ourselves and others today. He is available in our Bettendorf office for appointments.

Sonya Weber-Madison, LMSW, MOL, LISW

Sonya Weber-Madison is a spiritual and emotional health professional with specializations in caregiver support, grief, end-of-life transitions, geriatrics, domestic violence, sexual assault, anxiety and group work. Sonya believes strongly in the empowerment model of social work and assisting clients in recognizing strengths and support systems in and around them. Sonya’s approach to assisting clients through positive change focuses on identifying goals, accessing resources, and building personal strengths. Sonya began her education with an AA degree from Scott Community College, followed by her Bachelor of Social Work degree with a concentration in mental health and psychology from Marycrest International College in 2002.
 
Sonya holds two master’s degrees: one in social work with an emphasis on empowerment and the other in organizational leadership. Both were earned at St. Ambrose University in 2004 and 2006. Sonya has further broadened her education base by seeking out and obtaining continuing education opportunities as they have arisen, which includes a designation as a certified senior advisor, earned in 2008. Angela, LMHC

Angela is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Angela sees individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in counseling related to issues of trauma and grief, alcohol and drug abuse, relational stress, and life transitions. She worked solely in the field of addictions for three years and has also spent time counseling in the area of grief and after-care through hospice.

Angela believes change starts with recognizing strengths so takes a strengths-based approach in combination with psychoeducation. She helps clients to explore and strengthen their existing strengths and skills while applying new information to provide insight and personal growth. She firmly believes every person is unique and tailors therapy to meet their individual needs.

 
Angela is a compassionate counselor who is committed to helping her clients engage in the change they need. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Political Science from Morningside College and her Master’s in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. She is available in our Muscatine office for appointments.
